Welcome to Millfields Primary School and Nursery

'A Journey for the Mind, a Home for the Heart'

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support for both the school, and your child’s home learning through this challenging time. The difficulties in juggling home learning with your own work or having to deal with other difficult personal circumstances, is incredibly hard. But so many of you have done this brilliantly – thank you.

On behalf of Millfields, I would also like to thank all our key worker parents for their contribution to the wider community throughout this time.

I would personally like to thank the staff and governors for their support through my first year at Millfields. The staff have worked incredibly hard and dealt with anything thrown at them during lock down, with humour and total professionalism. The commitment they have shown to the children has been outstanding.

I also wanted to take this moment to wish all our Year 6 children the very best of luck for the future as they move on to the next stage of their lives. They worked so hard this year and we have all been extremely proud of them. It has been fantastic to see so many of them return for the final few weeks too.

Lastly, all the children at Millfields have been incredible and have shown a real Millfields Mindset in their resilience and rising to the challenge that this year has brought. Firstly, their attitude to online learning has been fantastic and, for those that have returned to school, it is like they have never been away! They have taken to the new measures that are in place without a problem and it has been fantastic to see them back in school. It has also been great to see children from other year groups joining their new teacher for moving up sessions. I know the teachers have really enjoyed seeing the children and having a chance to talk to them before September.

I am sure that for some of you, you may feel anxious about your child returning to school in September. However, please be reassured that we will continue to make school as safe as possible for children, staff and yourselves. We have successfully remained open for groups since school was closed back in March. This has increased over the months and for the last few weeks we have had approximately 90 children in school along with over 20 members of staff. This has ensured that as a staff, we are experienced in working in new ways and it has enabled us to review and refine the measures that we have put in place ready for our whole school return in September.

Your child may also feel anxious about returning (although hopefully they would've been reassured by the moving up session if they were able to attend). Please remind them how exciting it will be to see their friends again and how much their teachers are looking forward to working with them.

I have attached information relating to the start of the new academic year in school information. It outlines start and finish times for year groups and also gives more information regarding how we will keep staff and children safe moving forward. Some of the information is the same to what we had in place for the phased re-opening, but there are updated details included now too.

As you are aware, school's correspondence from myself and admin has been predominately by email. This will continue during the summer, into the new academic year. Therefore, please check your emails for any further updates over the summer and for future information in the autumn term. If you change your email address, then you are able to update the address on Arbor through your login.

As always, if you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I hope you all have a fantastic summer. Stay safe and I look forward to welcoming you all back in September.
