Nursery

Mrs Crawford

I would like to welcome everyone and provide some information about our Nursery.

Millfields Nursery is a purpose built unit designed to meet the needs of the pre-school child, and is open to those living in the catchment area for Millfields Primary School, together with other children from outside our area when places are available.

Our Nursery offers ALL 3 and 4 year olds up to 30* hours of free nursery provision each week.

We are open 9am until 3pm during school term times, we offer

Monday-Friday  9am – 12 pm OR 12pm – 3pm or a full day 9am - 3pm

Nursery children can also access the main school before and after school provision, called the Rise N Shine Club meaning at an additional cost your child could attend breakfast club (7:30am - 9:00am) and also afterschool club (3:00pm - 4:15/5:55pm), see their page for further details.

As you may be aware, the Government has extended the 15 hours free childcare to working families to a maximum of 30 hours .

*If you meet the eligibility rules (SEE Childcare Choices website) for 30 hours and you wish to apply to use that at our Nursery then you need to visit the Childcare Choices website on www.childcarechoices.gov.uk through this website, you will be able to complete an online assessment to see if you qualify. If you qualify, you will be issued with an eligibility code which should be taken to our school office  to validate the code BEFORE your child is due to start Nursery.

You will be sent a letter approximately 8 weeks BEFORE your child is eligible to start Nursery asking what sessions you would ideally like for them. Children can usually start Nursery in the term AFTER they are three if places are available.

We don't always have a particular topic in Nursery as I plan on a daily basis depending on the children's interests; however we often do activities based on the seasons and celebrations. If we are doing a topic I will try and provide ideas of things you could do at home to support the work we are doing.

Children will bring home a blue book bag; this will contain a book from Nursery that they have chosen to share with you at home. Each child will have a specific day when they need to bring back their book bag and change their book with you at the start of their session. To make this manageable they will only be able to change their book once a week.

Children who stay all day have their lunch in Nursery. Most children bring their own packed lunch from home but you can pay for a hot school lunch brought down from the main school if you wish. Please see the main school office page to see the daily price and the current menu choices.

PLEASE can I remind you that we allow children to access the outside area WHATEVER the weather, if they want to go outside, so please can you send your child with suitable outdoor waterproof warm coats and NAMED WELLIES. It is also a good idea to pack a spare set of clothes in your child’s bag in case they get wet or dirty playing or in case they have an accident going to the toilet. We do have some spare clothes in Nursery but often children don't like wearing "Nursery clothes".

Please note if Nursery has to close there are useful links on our home learning page and activities will be provided through Tapestry for you to access at home with your child. Email me if you have any issues.

Best wishes
