Year 2

Welcome to the first half of our summer term

Dear Parents and Children,

Miss Buckley and I hope you all had a lovely and relaxing two weeks off and feel ready and energized for the start of our summer term.

As previously mentioned, we will continue to follow The White Rose scheme of work. This will include work on Fractions. Measurement and Geometry.

Thematic work:

Our geography topic is Comparing China with the UK and Nantwich. This will incorporate work on reading, writing and art/DT, while also giving the children the opportunity to develop their IT/research skills.

Our next two units of science are ‘Living Things and their habitats’, then ‘Plants’.

Our external sports provider, Miss Berry, will continue to work with year 2 on Thursday mornings.  As Forest Schools for year 2 has now come to an end, we will return to having another PE lesson on Tuesday afternoons (also outside, when possible). All children will need to come in dressed in their outdoor PE kit on both days.

A copy of our most recent school dinner menu is displayed next to our door, complete with a picture of each option, so that all the children know what they are ordering.

We understand that most people are very busy with all sorts of commitments, but we would be very grateful if you could listen to your child read at least three times a week. The children can also practice their times tables on Times Table Rockstars. All children should have their login in details stuck into their reading records. This same password enables them to log onto Numbots. The children will continue to receive spellings, to be learnt at home. In addition, children can also spend time practicing spellings from the year 1 and 2 word list. These words are used on a daily basis in writing across the curriculum. See the file in Downloads for a list of the words.

Extra notes

Please ensure that all children have a water bottle with them, each day. Unfortunately, there are no spare cups in our classroom.
Also, as we have been requested to limit close contact with the children, we ask that the children do not wear laced shoes if they are unable to tie them.
Please ensure that you request any 'paid for' snacks via the office to avoid your child being disappointed. We usually have free fruit available for the children during our morning break, unless the delivery has not arrived on a particular day.

If you have any questions, please contact the office and we will answer any questions you may have as best we can.

Kind Regards

Miss O’ Donovan & Miss Buckley
